Today was a hard day.
Really hard.
Something I have been fighting for all year has essentially become unattainable.
It was a huge blow.
I sat in my kitchen sobbing.
In the midst of my moment of emotional collapse
My youngest son,
who was not at all interested in allowing me time to wallow in my failures,
circled me with disapproving toddler eyes.
When his glances did not provide the desired effects,
he picked up the closest thing he could find.....
(a decorative plastic garden "rock" with the word
SERENITY
carved into it that a dear friend had given me a few years ago.
Since I am not the gardening type,
it serves(served) as a lovely decoration on in my dining room)...
and hurled it across the room.....
shattering it into many tiny pieces....
I had to laugh.
I had no choice.

That absolutely sums up parenthood, doesn't it? When my grandmother died, Selah kept asking why she was dead, how she was dead, and repeatedly asked about her being dead for the next several days. Day of, too, when I needed time alone and decided to bake cookies, she threw a tantrum because she wanted to help. You don't even get to grieve. But at least you have funny people to throw your kitschy rocks and break them.
he was making a deeper statement that it wasn't real serenity...

Ahhhh, funny :) I love you, Michelle!
