Summer is in full swing here, as evidenced by the almost ceremonious first trip of the season to one of our very favorite Portland "hot spots"....... Jamison Square Fountain. This perfect little gem is nestled right in the heart of the Pearl District amongst the fancy schmancy boutique stores, ridiculously over-priced restaurants and one particularly awesome
family friendly coffee shop. During the majority of the year, this clever little fountain in the center of city block shaped park serves as a stylish water feature for the Portland privileged as they walk to and fro their high-priced, high-rise condos.* But... when the weather turns and the sun comes out to grant us pasty Portlanders with its ultraviolet awesomeness, the masses(from all corners of this lovely city) come out to frolic in this perfect combination of grass, brick and water. It has just about everything our sweaty family could ask for on a sweltering afternoon....... running water, things to climb on, kids to play with, plenty of shady grass to stretch out on, several pizza joints close by, a hot-dog cart that carries veggie hot-dogs and the before-mentioned coffee-shop. It is also arguably the best Portland people watching spots I have ever been to.
It is among a very short list of places we go that can bring smiles to the faces of both the youngest and oldest of the Fab Five. Here is the photographic proof................
* If you happen to live in the Pearl District, please take no offense from this largely exaggerated statement.... I am really just painfully jealous.
